Orc Stain #6
by James Stockoe
Tom says: If I were Image I would be really bloody proud to be putting out Orc Stain. Lazy reviewers might use phrases like ‘enjoyable romp’, ‘visual feast’ and ‘like Moebius on LSD’. It’s an enjoayble romp, a visual feast, like Moebius on LSD.
Madman All-New Giant-Size Super Ginchy Special
by Michael Allred and guests
Camila says: As if a brand new story written and drawn by Michael Allred wasn’t enough of a treat for Madman fans, Allred just created his own Madman version of Marvel’s Strange Tales and DC’s Bizarro Comics in this giant-size issue, with other artists re-imagining Madman and The Atomics universe in three short stories and a bunch of pretty awesome looking pin-ups. Highly recommended!
Special mention: The Walking Dead #78 is easily one of the best issues of the series so far!
Fear Itself #1(One-Shot)
by Matt Fraction and Stuart Immonen
Ant says: Marvel kicks off its new event in fine style, as Sin, the new Red Skull, uses a hidden Asgardian weapon to wreak havoc in the Marvel Universe. Solid start to what is sure to be one of the biggest comics of the summer! Woo-hoo! Nice to see the return of the Midgard Serpent too.
Undying Love #1
by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman
Chris says: There’s one word to describe this book: exquisite. I’m not generally a fan of Tomm Coker’s work – I’ve always found it a little too rough and scratchy for my liking – But with Undying Love he’s honed that style and delivered it to the next level. That’s probably due, in no small part, to colourist Daniel Freedman, who both complements and helps to elevate the art. It takes on a painterly style which is beautiful to behold. The story is quite interesting as well, and I’m keen to see where it goes.
Special mention: one of Image’s other #1s this week, Blue Estate, which was also great.
