There is a lot happening all over the country this month, with at least one comic related event for every weekend of September:
The first Birmingham Zine Fest is on this weekend (Sep 10th – 12th) , shining a light on a wide range of self-published books, comics, magazines and artwork from artists connected to the alternative press.
Just one week later, on Sep.18th, it’s time to head a bit further North for Leeds Alternative Comics Fair. Also being held for first time this year, it looks like an excellent event, and hopefully the first of many.
Sunday that same weekend, September 19th, it’s time for another Exeter Comic Expo. Special Guests confirmed include Lee Garbett, Kirst Swan, David Hine, Shaky Kane, Matt Timson, Lee O’Connor, Dom Reardon and Mike Ploog.
On the 25th and 26th, there’s J-Con in Derby, featuring an array of Anime and Manga based events and games, traditional Japanese work shops as well as contemporary Japanese-based art and music.
Over in London, we have Becky Cloonan’s Exhibition at our own gallery, on display until the end of the month; and the the wonderful Hypercomics: The shape of comics to come Exhibition at the Pumphouse Gallery in Battersea Park, showing until September 26th.
For the young comic lovers out there (aged 13-19), there is also a series of workshops and classes taking place this weekend as part of London Thames Festival at the South Bank Centre. The highlights include Manga Character Creation, Stop frame animation, Creative Drawing and even a Dr. Who Games Design Competition.
