We are excited to be hosting the launch for Deeds Not Words: Part One on Friday, July 29th.

In this explosive, sixty-page comic book begins a story of power, resistance and friendship in dark times: King Edward is on the throne of a British Empire collapsing under its own weight, and those who hold power are determined it will not be shared. It is a dangerous time for a cooper’s daughter and her mother to be displaying a queer strength beyond the usual limitations of mankind. Emily Downings is young, Deaf and angry, with questions that need answers. To get them, she must deal with those who would deny her choices and chances. Hearing people.

Howard Hardiman is the writer behind Deeds Not Words.  He has a couple of other books, The Lengths (Described as “Beautiful and gritty” by Out There Magazine) and Badger’s Day Out, which are worth checking out.

Sarah Gordon is the visual artist on this project. Her latest book, Strip, was short-listed for Best Comic of the Year at the 2015 British Comic Awards.
