Orbital Comics and Threnody Press present: a book Launch for Harsh Lung: Collected Stories by Luke Drozd, on Saturday 25th February from 7-9pm.
Harsh Lung brings together 69 short stories written by artist Luke Drozd. Created over a five-year period, the tiny tales are tinted with sadness and humour, touching on universal human concerns such as love, death, betrayal, cake, skeletons, dead foxes, the vastness of space, bestiality, exquisite fonts, Greek mythological man-beasts treading water on zero-hours contracts in the convenience food sector, and much more.
For the launch, Luke has enlisted the help of spoken word & sound-collage duo Reet Maff’l to bring some of these tales to life via improvised, music-backed readings. There will also be a live solo set from multi-instrumentalist Andy Abbott (guitarist in That Fucking Tank, Nope and noisemonger for Reet Maff’l) exploring minimalist ambience and transcendental repetition.
Luke is best-known for his illustration work and gig posters for musical big-hitters such as Michael Rother, They Might Be Giants and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, as well as cult comedians Stewart Lee and Adam Buxton. His comic strips have been released within two self-published books (Dark Days and Threnodies) as well as compendium publications such as Off-Life, Strapazin and O.K. Periodicals.
